Lithuania is about to make history!

From the desk of one passionate bachata couple:

1st Lithuanian International BACHATA Festival - Sept 25-27, 2009

http://www.bachatasouls.lt

You love to dream… and need to feel… Maybe some time ago you had a vision of dancing more like flying in the sky than stepping on the floor? Or for many years you have been dreaming about holding your love in the arms so close that it felt kind of almost painful in your heart? Wished to be the wind to blow that pain away, to make air fresh and healing around…?

You’ve been waiting for that feeling for so long… Can barely remember when this kind of nostalgia has came to you for the first time and why you have not noticed it being so close around for all those years…?
Today is different. You love counting the stars, saying out loud all those love words you have been hiding for years… hiding in the kiss you’ve been having in your dreams every night … and feeling it’s reflection deep in your heart and soul every morning …

Today you desire to cherish the moment when two souls hold each other in a way they feel of being one…, to appreciate and care…

Today you understand that it’s meant to follow your dreams – otherwise you will never be living. And never will be flying.

We had been dreaming about the same for so long that could not wait to make it happen any longer… We love dancing Bachata. Join us. We know you gonna love it too.

With love,
BACHATA Souls

The Making of Lithuania Bachata Festival

Two years ago, I inspired a couple to dance bachata beyond social dancing.

Tampere, Finland, the 1st Finland Bachata festival 2008 was just the beginning, this is where I met them. They took every single workshop I taught there.

A Vision was born...

Bachata in Lithuania, a festival at that!

A bit scared at first but I assured them, I am with them all the way.

A few months later, they embarked on taking every lessons there was available and even ended up in California, just in time for the 1st Reno Bachata Convention Jan 2009. Mind you, they got married in California.

They have been traveling all over the world to learn from everyone.

I have seen them in just about every bachata festivals in Europe, in fact, I just saw them last week at the SF Bachata Festival where they taught and performed. They also got an Award of Recognition for spreading Bachata in Lithuania.

What did I think about their performance? I'll described it in three words - poetry in motion

Sarunas and Giedre aka Bachatasouls have grown so much as dancers and have slowly been spreading the bachata virus in Lithuania.

On September 25-27, 2009, Lithuania is about to make history for having the 1st International Bachata Festival! Check Info here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=93614876131&ref=ts

Hosted by Bachatasouls! Yes, most of you know them, met them, danced with them - they're all inviting you to visit the wonderful city of Vilnius, Lithuania, for an unforgettable bachata celebration.

I will be there, of course, amongst other top dance teachers...save me a dance ;-)

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, July 11, 2009 and July 25-26, 2009

Cancer disease is my personal enemy #1...

Not only I lost several friends and loved ones, but I battled one myself. Everytime I went to the hospital to be treated with chemo, I made new friends. Like me, they also battled cancer. Memories in that hospital, I would never forget. It was like a battleground and we were like warriors, brave, courageous and we often encouraged each other to hang in there and fight. It was as if we fought side by side.

I survived that war 12 years ago, but I didn't win it, "we" didn't win. I lost most of my friends from that hospital.

Today, I feel what most war veterans feel about their fellow soldiers. I feel bad for my fellow cancer warriors that they didn't survive. I feel humbled that I survived and they did not. Cancer to this day is still a terrorist.

Movies and books such as My Sister's Keeper keep me in check. And whenever I hear a fundraiser for "Cure for Cancer," I do everything I can to support.

So On July 11th, in Dublin, I will be teaching salsa and bachata for a good cause...(Read the official announcement below)

Dear Manny Pacquaio,

I have watched all of your professional fights over the years. Not only you have won the hearts of your fellow Filipinos but also the world's.

You got the world's attention, and as a result, Philippines is becoming much more visible than just a dot on a map.

Your desire of getting involved in politics makes sense, yet I disagree to where it is going.

Your advisors are wrong to seek small positions such as congressman or senator. I am sorry, but these type of positions can only do little things for the country. I don't even think they can make a dent in changing the country.

YOU HAVE TO SEEK THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENCY.

And the time is now!

It's a bold statement, I know.

But yes, I said it...

President Many Pacquaio can make a huge difference in the Philippines and will absolutely make Philippines bigger than a dot on the map.

I am fully aware that you have no experience in the office of politics. Nowadays, It's actually perfect. Remember Cory? People love to vote for someone that can actually relate to ordinary people. Sometimes experience in politics can actually be a bad thing.

You have a gift, an image, popularity and most importantly a sincere heart.

When you become the president ( I am confident that you will win), the economy will improve in a big way and your foreign relationships will improve and Philippines will gain respect amongst other countries. There is no one else in the country that can actually solve the economy.

All of the people trying to offer you positions or appointing you right now are just using you, do not succumbed to their schemes.

So when you defeat Mayweather in your next fight, it's time to retire. Assemble a political dream team and make Philippines the country it was meant to be.

You yourself have said that you want to make a difference in the country, well, the office of the president can change a country, not a senator or congressman.

Sincerely,
Rodney Aquino

Grégory and Fernanda of Bachatando Festival

Grégory and Fernanda are the organizers of the 1st bachata festival in Brussels, BACHATANDO FESTIVAL. The event will be held on March 6th through 8th. It's a labor of love for these passionate dancers.

Rodney: Hey you two, can you tell us a bit about how you both started Salsa and how you met?

Grégory: Hi Rodney, are you sure that you want to hear about that long story?

Fernanda: I was born in Chile and thanks to my origins I started dancing Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue… from a young age, with my parents. My move to Belgium didn't diminish my love for Latin music and dance. Instead, I became curious about other styles so I practiced different kinds of dances.

Later, wanting to learn new things, I discovered Salsa ‘on 2 – NY style’. It was two years ago, in a Latin club in Brussels… This is where I met Grégory.

Grégory: And so this is where I met Fernanda…I began dancing Salsa a bit more than 4 years ago. My girlfriend at that time had told me “Come and learn salsa with me or I leave you”. Ok, just kidding…haha - I’m not sure if these were her precise words, but I can assure you it sounded like a menace. I agreed to try it out for one lesson but told her that after, she would continue by herself. Yet, after the first lesson I immediately fell in love with Latin dances and later, my ex-girlfriend stopped dancing after 6 months...

After one year, my teachers (Alain and Sylvia, from Salsa Bruxelles) asked me to help them teach sometimes. At the beginning, I assisted Sylvia with a small group, then I was left on my own with one group, then a second one, etc…Soon, students and promoters began to ask me for private lessons or for animating company employees. It soon became clear that I seriously needed a partner…

Fernanda: We didn’t really know each other. I just knew that Grégory gave some lessons at the same dance school I attended, but we had never talked. One day he asked me if I was ready to work with him.

Rodchata: Just like that, eh?

Grégory: Yes, I thought she would be my partner and she became my best friend. Now people are used to see us together and our names “Grégory and Fernanda” are almost like a brand. It gave the name of our company: Granda (a contraction of Grégory and Fernanda) Dance Project.

Rodchata: Nicely put, so where does bachata fit there? When did you get interested in dancing and teaching it?

Grégory: We danced Bachata as every salsero does, by learning on the dance floor. We were deeply involved in mambo (and we still do), but many people asked us for bachata initiations.

Fernanda: With our hard-working attitude and not being easily satisfied, we began to search for new ways of dancing Bachata - watching a lot of videos, reading about the origins, listening to loads of songs. The more we discovered, the deeper we wanted to go!

A bit later, we were approached by promoters who asked us to give workshops in national festivals. It was always such a huge success that we systematically signed the contract for the next edition at the end of the festival…

Grégory: At the same time, we discovered that there were many styles and possibilities in Bachata. For example, only a few teachers and students know about the “Dominican style” in Belgium. And we are in love with it!

Rodchata: Ah, I like you already, man!

Fernanda: So as you see, teaching and performing came quite naturally. And now we feel it very important to share our passion and to promote all the facets of Bachata.

Our courses and workshops have a significant success and we are being increasingly invited to participate in different festivals and parties, thanks to our motivation. We are proud to spread Bachata in Brussels and elsewhere in Belgium by promoting it through our show “Quiereme”, the first Bachatando Festival and the Smooth Parties.

Rodchata: Tell us more about Bachatando

Grégory: Bachatando is a great challenge for us. We decided to organize a three-day event in Brussels. Three days of fun packed with workshops, parties and shows involving some of the best international and national instructors and performers.

Tony Lara, Frank Santos and yourself, just to name a few, immediately accepted our proposition and supported the project.

It is a lot of work, but it will be fantastic… Bachata, Bachata and Bachata. This festival is a perfect way to put this word in everybody’s mouth: dancers, teachers and the media. We are planning to participate in a lot of popular events during the next months to tell everyone about Bachatando Festival.

Fernanda: But this event is only one part of a global project. We also organize parties, trips, workshops, etc.

Rodchata: That’s great to hear! What do you guys do and which nights?

Fernanda: Every two Thursdays, we invite bachateros and zoukeros to the Smooth Parties. Our resident DJ spins the best of Bachata and Zouk. These parties are really cool. The atmosphere is different from the one you normally find in a Salsa party. We have the chance to enjoy a nice place, a lounge club not far from the city centre.

Grégory: Each party begins with a workshop. For the first edition, we conducted a “fusion style” workshop. Then we had other teachers proposing a Bachatango workshop and a Tango show. During the next editions, we will have Cha cha cha, Bachaton, Kizomba and other interesting surprises.

All the teachers come for free because they are convinced by the way we work and lead our projects: seriously, but with a constant smile and an unflagging passion.

Rodchata: Ok before we end here, give us URL’s and links, will ya?

Elli and I

Two months ago, while I was doing the treadmill, I spotted Elli at the gym.

Men seemed to like her and spend time with her a great deal. I was intrigued…maybe I’ll approach her someday.

Weeks have passed; (Elli is always on the same spot in the gym.) Ugh, I couldn’t ignore her any longer 'cuz every time I did the treadmill she was such a distraction.

One day, I couldn't take it anymore, I stopped doing the treadmill and came toward her.

So we finally met, held her and…it was the beginning of a good relationship.

Ah, why I am always like this? I always get distracted by mystery, by challenge, the unknown…

Anyways, I decided to get together with Ellie every morning at 7. Our moments were always intense. Every time I go on top of her, I end up gasping for air with sweat. Needless to say that I love our get-together.

What can I say; she keeps me in shape ;-)

She isn’t called an Elliptical machine for nothing.

On2 Snob

Author's Note: I love on2 and it's my preference of dancing. I am only writing this in support of the salseros out there who'd been rejected by salseras who should know better. You are giving on2 a bad name.

When I stand up for myself and have chosen to only dance on2, they call me a snob

When I only listened and dance to salsa songs with xylophones, they call me a snob.

When I extend my arms, stretch ‘em with styling and accidentally poke you in the eye, you call me a snob...

Being an on2 dancer entails that I only dance to the right clave beat, there are no other beats, but I am not a snob!

Being an on2 dancer means that I am unique and special.

Call me an elitist, but I'm really not...I just dance with what feels right, the truth, and the true dance, ok, so you can call me an elitist.

Being an on2 dancer means I won't compromise what's in my heart. It means I dance a dance my way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me.

When I refuse to dance on1 or on3 injustice and speak up against it, you call me a snob.

I am outspoken, opinionated, and determined.

By God, I only dance on2 and don't dare ask me to dance on1 with you, and there is nothing wrong with that!

I will dance with anyone that dances on2, but I won't dance with you.

This year’s Salsa band, Orquesta Tabaco y Ron is a 12 piece “Big Band” orchestra, composed of musicians from all over Latin America including Puerto Rico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Mexico. Their stunning rhythms create a contagious energy that revives the salsa sounds of generations past.

All proceeds from the festival will benefit the Buena Vista Children's Foundation, a non-profit that impacts the lives of children through the miracle of sight. The Foundation hosts an annual clinic that provides free eye exams and glasses to underprivileged children in Sonoma County. Considering that 80% of all learning in a child’s first 12 years comes through the eyes, good vision is important for success in school.

“Most children do not complain about poor vision, because they think that everyone must see the world the way they do, and unfortunately go many years without the proper eyewear,” said co-founder of BVCF Dr. Antonio Morán, O.D. It is cases like these that inspired Dr. Morán and his wife, Irene Silva, to get involved and make a difference. As co-owners of Santa Rosa Salsa they searched for a way to combine their love of Salsa music and dance and their commitment to community service. They combined Dr. Morán’s passion for optometry and their love of Salsa music and dance. In 2007 they formed the Buena Vista Children’s Foundation, and made the festival a fundraising event. They wanted to bring the music and culture of Salsa to Sonoma County and at the same time impact the lives of children through the miracle of sight.

Dr. Antonio Morán, O.D. and Irene Silva are children of Mexican immigrants. Their parents came to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys in the 1950s to build a better life for their families. Fulfilling their parents’ commitment, Dr. Morán graduated from the prestigious UC Berkeley School of Optometry and Irene Silva received a Bachelor of Art degree in Economics with a minor in Communications from UC Davis. Dr. Morán and his wife share those same values with their own family, emphasizing as well the importance of commitment to education and to their community.

GWorks and Manila Salsa Festival Exposed

It's Like Spitting On David Melendez's Grave!

One of the few regrets I have in the salsa scene was missing the very 1st Salsa Congress in the Philippines back in 2005. How can a Pinoy like me miss such a good thing? Ah, but then past is past.

On the last week of December 2006, I emailed David Melendez asking him If I can help out for the next Philippine Salsa Congress. I received a reply in an instant saying, “Hey Rod, I appreciate your willingness to help out, but we will not be doing a congress this year, But I will let you know.”

After a few days, I have heard from a friend in New York that David had been battling Malignant Mesenchymal Tumor. In a word, Cancer. So being the cancer survivor that I am, on December 27, 2006, I felt compelled to call him again just give him a pep talk and positive energy.

He was very positive and upbeat and assured me that we would see each other and talk at the Salsa Event in Palm Springs. Little did I know that was the last time I’ll ever talk to him.

On February 8, 2007, on his way to his new dance studio in Florida, David sufffered a seizure and died. It was a big shock to the salsa community world. He was an icon and was a true ambassador of salsa. To this day, David Melendez is sorely missed.

Last year of 2007, the New York Salsa Congress, which happened to be David Melendez creation, started honoring David by giving The David Melendez Award. “Every year, we at the New York Salsa Congress honor a person or persons that contributed in his or her own way to the dance community. From now on, we are acknowledging this honor as the David Melendez Award. This year, at the 7th Annual New York Salsa Congress, it gives us great pleasure in presenting the award to its first recipient, to its namesake, Mr. David Melendez.” - NYC Congress Inc

Indeed, David’s Legacy continues, the salsa congresses he created all over are still being held yearly, and of course, one of them is the Philippine Salsa Festival. This is David Melendez’s baby. Although PSF wasn’t held in the year 2007, Kristine Constantino, the co-creator of PSF, felt that David’s legacy and his vision for salsa in the Philippines must go on. Enter Philippines Salsa Festival 2008, not Manila Salsa Festival.

“Of all the Asian countries in the world, Philippines has the most Latin influence, so there is no reason why salsa is small. Philippines Salsa Festival will catapult the salsa genre in the country.” said, Constantino, Director of PSF.

On November14-16, 2008, Kristine Constantino along with Latin Dance Professionals, promoters and world class DJs, once again, will be honoring the late David Melendez at the Annual Philippine Salsa Festival in Manila with performances, workshops and social dancing.

But let me back up here for a moment…

November 2008 is probably the busiest month for me considering that I am involved on events like the Dallas Salsa Congress and San Francisco Salsa Congress, so for me to do the Philippine Salsa Festival is overstretching it. Then I recieved a shocking letter from Kristine…

To the friends of the 2008 Philippine Salsa Festival,

Hello everyone, hope all of you are doing well. My name is Kristine Constantino, Owner and Director of the 2008 Philippine Salsa Festival. I received alarming news from several of our Philippine Salsa Festival instructors that an outside source have informed them that the 2008 Philippine Salsa Festival has been cancelled and is now being directed by another production company.

This person continued on to say they will now call this event Manila Salsa Festival and it will be held on the same dates as our event. This person and production company is soliciting our current staff and attendees to be part of their event and is providing false information to make you believe otherwise. I am sending you this email to let you know I have not cancelled the 2008 Philippine Salsa Festival and the event will go on as planned.

I want to assure you that I am the current Owner and Director of the 2008 Philippine Salsa Festival and will continue to make final decisions regarding the event. If you have not been contacted by these outside sources please expect them to do so.

We need your support more than ever! We need to band together and and continue our relationship in being part of this event, and making it a success. Please do not believe these rumors and forward me any correspondence you receive and I will personally handle them. It is people like these that destroys the unity and love that Salsa brings to our lives.

Due to these unfortunate news I am determined more than ever to create an amazing and memorable event for you. I am not only doing this for my own dreams, but most importantly to continue David Melendez’ legacy and to bring Salsa to the Philippines in a positive way.

If you could please pass this information along to your friends and to other Salsa lovers in the world. I hope you continue to join me in this cause.

Sincerely,

Kristine Constantino Director, Philippine Salsa Festival November 14-16, 2008 Website: http://www.philippinesalsafestival.com Email: kristine@philippinesalsafestival.com - Phone: (650) 832-1681

When I read this letter I was furious, dismayed and very disappointed. How could people dare steal someone else’s idea. And to top all that, how can these people purposely do this same event on the same dates and the same hotel? This is David Melendez’s vision.

To imitate such event, doing it on the same dates and same hotel is like spitting on his grave!

It’s a divisive act and an absolute insult to the salsa community as a whole.

I contacted Kristine to tell her that I am on board. I’m gonna support and help her all the way, after all, this was supossedly what I was gonna tell David at the Salsa Palm Springs event anyways, but the event got cancelled and a month later, David died.

We’re now a few months away before the event and salseros all over already confirming their support and presence to the Philippine Salsa Festival. I don’t think the dancers and performers supporting the so-called Imitators (Manila Salsa Festival and GWorks) are fully aware of the truth and the whole story of what happened. They need to know and someone or some people need to tell them. I don’t even think they know that it is David Melendez’s event.

But we’re moving on and more salseros now are on board with Philippine Salsa Festival (PSF). We now have salsa brothers and sisters from all over the globe such as Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, USA, Abu Dhabi plus Albert Torres, and recently, PSF and Albert Torres agreed to make Philippines Salsa Festival a qualifier for ESPN World Salsa Championship. It is going to be a fun festival!

We are calling all salseros and salseras around the world to support the Philippine Salsa Festival. We need your help more than ever.

Information letter by Antonio Moran, OD

The Buena Vista Children’s Foundation was formed to provide free vision care and eye glasses to underprivileged children of Sonoma County. B.V.C.F. is a non-profit organization formed this year inside our mission of improving the lives of children through the miracle of sight. Below is information addressing the issue of vision and learning difficulties in school-aged children. It illustrates the importance of good vision in a learning environment.

Vision And Learning Difficulties In School Aged Children Undetected Vision Problems Can Lead To Problems In School

According to research published in The Journal of Behavioral Optometry by Roger Johnson, Ph.D. of Old Dominion University and Joel Zaba, M.A., O.D, there is a significant relationship between undetected vision problems, reading, and learning. Considering that 80% of all learning in a child’s first 12 years comes through the eyes, good vision is important for their success in school. Some children are labeled “learning disabled” or “trouble-makers,” when all they need is an eye exam and appropriate vision correction. An alarming 2 out of 3 children receive no vision assessment before starting school, and 1 in 4 children has an undetected vision problem that can interfere with learning.

Despite the participation in school vision screening, many children with poor vision go unnoticed and undetected. Unlike a comprehensive eye exam, a simple screening – a distance vision test using a Snellen chart – only identifies 5% of vision problems in children, according to the American Foundation for Vision Awareness. While these vision screenings are useful for offering an early indication of problems relating to distance eyesight, they miss other critical vision deficiencies that can impact a child’s eye health development. If not corrected early, some vision problems such, as amblyopia, can lead to permanent vision loss.

To impact the lives of children through the miracle of sight, the Buena Vista Children’s Foundation will host an annual clinic that will provide free comprehensive eye exams that measure a number of visual skills that are critical to a child’s healthy vision, such as using both eyes as a team, the ability of the eyes to focus properly when reading a book, or viewing a computer, and the ability of the eyes to move properly when reading across the pages of books. In addition, the foundation will provide free eye glasses to underprivileged children, so that they are ready to gain the knowledge and skills that will remain with them their entire lives. How well a child can see will have a tremendous impact on how much and how quickly they will learn.

Bachata Instructor, bachata dance, Salsa Teacher, salsa dance, bachata website

Pseudo Dance Teachers

"And since they are bachata ignorant, they conveniently call it freestyle, being free from any responsibility and authenticity."

I have a big problem with so-called dance teachers coining their style "bachata freestyle." Now don't get me wrong, there is such thing as freestyle in dancing. But keep reading because this is about to get annoying.

First of all, the term "freestyle" came from sports such as swimming, gymnastics or wrestling. Freestyle in swimming means that it's an event in which the contestants may choose any stroke. It's the same thing in wrestling - a contestant is allowed to use any holds or tactics.

To break down the term Freestyle... Free - Not obligated to anything; exempt from; not in bondage.

SIDENOTE 1: If you may have noticed, you might have used "free" in a sentence from something or someone.

For example: "I am a free man, I just got out from jail." "I got a free ride from a taxicab." Style - how something is done or how it happens.

So if we to put it together here, "freestyle" means "free of" or "free from" a style.

So what the hell is your problem then, Rodchata?

My problem is when dancers use the term freestyle in a cop-out manner. What do I mean by this?

I have a problem with instructors not being familiar with a particular dance and even having any clues of the bolts and nuts of the dance, yet they just easily coin their dance "freestyle" out of convenience.

Curious: "Hey, where did you learn Bachata?"
Cop-out: Uh, Nowhere, mine is freestyle.

To be more specific, I have a problem when so-called bachateros coining their Bachata style as such! I happen to know some people that have never danced Bachata or studied Bachata before, yet all of a sudden they now teach their "bachata-freestyle." They learned Bachata from watching clips from youtube, or from watching me and other instructors dance. So after a few days, they now declare themselves as Bachata Teacher.

If you look at youtube, you'd see countless ignorant people praising a Bachata dance that isn't even a proper Bachata dance! I don't blame them for that, after all, the world is not familiar with the bachata dance yet. Of course, it's no surprise that you'd see a lot of Dominicans hating because their dance is being bastardized!

People have started producing their own Bachata instructional DVDs ... hell... they might even become the #1 best seller in eBay or Amazon. The problem is that if you really test their knowledge of the Bachata dance, the music and its culture, they wouldn't know what to tell you except what they probably heard from their friends that "it's quite similar to Merengue..." And since they are bachata ignorant, they conveniently call it freestyle, being free from any accountability and authenticity.

SIDENOTE 2: I am fully aware of the modern styles of bachata. Still, any modern styles should still be based from its original-traditional style. Be very careful using the term "modern" because it could fall in the "freestyle" category.

But there is a proper way to use the term freestyle. My friend, Garry Johnson from the Bay Area had been in the salsa scene for over 15 years. He won numerous salsa competitions. He dance on1, on2 and even Cuban son/casino style. He performed all over the world. In Fact, he is one of the most sought-out dance instructors in the Bay Area. Aside from dancing Latin, Hip-Hop and other dance, he is musically inclined. He plays several instruments. He is perhaps one of the few knowledgeable dance instructors in the bay Area. He recently declared his salsa dancing, "Freestyle Salsa." According to his website, www.freestylesalsa.com,

"The name freestyle stuck with us for several reasons: we remain free of any one particular style and adapt our dancing to fit with dancers of all style and levels. Through deep understanding and knowledge of roots, we mix different influences and styles with what we believe to be of good taste."

So from reading his statement above, I comment that in other words, you can use the term "freestyle" respectively because you have been there! "Free of or free from!" You studied the culture, the dance, the techniques, the tradition, and the roots and most importantly, you studied how to teach it.

I still remember to this day when a well-known dance instructor from the East Coast scolded me on not dancing the traditional style of Bachata. I was stubborn at first. I gave him a lot of cop-out excuses. Eventually I gave in to his rebuke. I thought to myself that if I were to become an effective Bachata dance educator and instructor; I must, first and foremost, know the foundation of the dance and music. Not only should I have knowledge about the traditional danceand its origins, but I must also be able to dance it!

Today, I am privileged that I can dance any style of Bachata. Although I can dance these styles, I prefer to just dance the ones I prefer, keeping what Garry Johnson said above in mind.

I have, to this day, been in constant pursuit of my Bachata education and ensure that my students learn what I've learned and have been learning. It is my hope that the Bachata instructors out there make it a point for themselves to really study the dance, the music and its culture.

I also hope for the bachata students that they'd keep an open mind, with constant hunger for learning, and remain teachable.
